Wikipedia

Wikipedia

a. What is Wikipedia? A multimedia web based encyclopedia.
b. How would you answer the question posed in this piece “How reliable can a source be when anyone can edit it?”? I don't believe that a source could be very reliable when just anyone can edit it. You don't know how reliable this person is. However whenever someone edits a page a wikipedia member can look and see what exactly what was said.
c. Who do the creators of Wikipedia place their trust in when it comes to weeding out misinformation? The wisdom of the crowds.
d. Why did founder Larry Sanger leave Wikipedia? He believed the site should give more authority to experts.
e. What would abuse or vandalism look like on a Wikipedia page? Abuse or vandalism would just look like someone went in and put what ever they wanted. But with someone constantly looking you wouldn't really ever see it.
f. What do the statistics quoted in the third paragraph of this piece reveal? They show how many languages this website is in.
g. Why do you think Wikipedia is so successful? Because it's free and easy to use.
h. Why might Wikipedia’s creators not want to accept advertising? They would then use more money then they already do.
i. How does Wikiscanner help increase the reliability of Wikipedia entries? It exposes self interested editing very quickly.
